Our Wild Atlantic Escapes Weekend was a massive success and saw thrill seekers and adventurers gather at various locations around Sligo to challenge themselves, while also enjoying some of Sligo’s epic scenery.  Our network of adventure providers worked together to offer an action-packed weekend with quirky adventure activities both on land and water taking place from early morning, during the day and into the night.

The weekend kicked off with a Full Moon Night Hike in Union Woods on the Friday. This after dark adventure was led by Northwest Adventure Tours. Next up, early morning risers experienced calm during the Dawn Paddle on Saturday morning with Northwest Adventure Tours and Sligo Bay SUP.

Also on Saturday, Auriel of Seatrails guided her visitors on the Spanish Armada Coastal Trail along the Streedagh coast and spoke of the History of the Spanish Armada. Later, surfers enjoyed an adventure collaboration with an exhilerating afternoon with Eddie of Strandhill Surf Experience followed by an energising yoga experience on the beach with Blaithin, Your Wellbeing Warrior.

Reel at the Keel incorporated an unusual but fun combination of sailing and a trad music session on Church Island on Lough Gill with Wild West Sailing. On Saturday evening, the Full Moon SUP Social was in full swing in Enniscrone with a Paddle on Wild Atlantic Way and BBQ at the Pier with Harbour Sup.

Sunday started out with a relaxing beach yoga session on Strandhill beach with Your Wellbeing Warrior followed by a tasty Shells Sea Side Bakery Cafe Yogi Breakfast.

The final event, the Benbulben Yoga Hike, was a fundraiser for Havin a Laugh Charity and saw Northwest Adventure Tours team up with Wellbeing with Blaithin for a successful evening of exploring Sligo’s iconic mountain tops along with a fun and exhilarating Yoga release for body and mind.

We also teamed up with Call of the Wild, an activity store in Sligo that caters for outdoor enthusiasts, for our photo competition. We asked people to tag their photos with #AdventureSligo over the duration of the weekend and our finalists were put to the public vote.  Theresa Kilgannon’s image from the Full Moon Hike was the most popular and bagged Theresa the €50 voucher for Call of the Wild.

We were honoured to have Yvonne Gordon join us for some of the activities over the weekend. Yvonne is an award-winning features and travel writer who has written more than 200 travel features for newspapers, magazines and websites around the globe. She has travelled in more than 40 countries on six continents, has won three national and one international award for travel writing and photography.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on this epic weekend, stay tuned for our next one!
